Kobe Bryant was an American professional basketball player. He was named after the Japanese steak "kobe". Bryant was the first guard to be drafted by the NBA out of high school and became the youngest player to start an NBA game. He also played his entire professional career for the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant won two Olympic gold medals for men’s basketball and won five NBA championships. He is fourth on the NBA all-time scoring list. Bryant's post-NBA life included sports-related ventures, notably the Mamba Sports Academy facilities in Thousand Oaks and Redondo Beach for current and aspiring athletes.
